"worst hotel experience ever"

At first the hotel did not seem so bad, the only cons being a slight urine smell and it's location directly across the street from the airport. Also the beach is dirtier than the other hotels in the Skanes/Monastir area. On the plus side the rooms are cheap and it is a very easy trip to Monastir and Sousse which are both interesting cities.

The real problem started the day before I was to leave Tunisia, when the staff decided to steal every object of even moderate value left in our room. They stole: sunglasses, earrings, a mobile phone, polish zloty, and even a broken watch.

When we discovered our belongings were missing the hotel management treated us in a condescending and mocking fashion. The director of the hotel also tried to make it difficult for us to file a police report. While the robbery was very upsetting, it was really the hotel management's treatment of the situation that really got me.

Prior to the theft, my experience in Tunisia had been a pleasant one. I regret that my choice of hotel essentially ruined my vacation, please don't make the same mistake.

Southern Tunisia is very beautiful and has a lot to offer. If you're looking for a more exotic vacation and less of a beach holiday I would consider looking somewhere like douz or tozur. The landscape around matmata is also breathtaking.
