"Sirenis La Salina Varadero "
We were to this resort the first week of April 2009.As everyone is saying in their reviews,it is a very big resort.
Not a 4 star.More a 3.0 to 3.5 star.
Cubans have a very different culture than us Canadians. You have to go there with an open mind.Don't expect to have a gourmet meal. The food there is so so.But like a lot of reviews say,you can always find something you like.Meals are all the same at each at breakfast, lunch, and diner.Lots of choices, but always the same foods.Bread is good.We went to the cuban restaurant, which was o.k.Japanese was excellent. Some people could't get the Japanese restaurant-all booked for the week.We heard the french restaurant was good.
I would recommend the catamaran trip to cayo blanco. Beautiful Island, you have diner there, chicken, potatoes,as a Maritimer, lobster on the Island was not good.on the boat, you pay 10 pesos for a tail of lobster boiled in sea water ,garlic, and butter, better than on the Island. But overall it is worth it.They have all you can drink beer, rum punch, and rum and coke, water ,soft drinks. The trip cost 79 pesos.Exchange is better at the airport. We got 72 pesos for 100 can.dollars and at resort,it varies -64-67 pesos for 100 dollars.
The Cubans are not that friendly. They expect a tip ,and when they get it,it doesn't seem appreciated.I think that you should tip them individually, but if you tip them at the bar, they have to share it with all the staff members.trip to Havana ok-About 200.oo Canadian each for the day trip, diner, supper ,2 beverages, and a room to shower and change for Tropicana show(starts at 10h00pm.You get back at your resort around 2h00am.
All in all it was ok.Made the best of it.Wouldn't go out of my way to go back to Cuba.I think that Cubans don't like the fact that they have to rely on Canadian tourists for a living.Plus they cannot leave Cuba(their pesos not recognized in other countries). And it seems they blame us Canadians.Been to other countries-love Mexicans and Dominicans -very friendly and appreciative.Anyways ,that was our experience.
The Pros
very pretty beach
nice waitress at buffet resto.
Japanese restaurant
The Cons
unfriendliness
pluming in rooms
too big resort for staff
same bland food
