Croatia, in central Europe, has been referred to as the land of a 1000 islands. One of the world’s leading tourist destinations, this little country is popular despite the effects of the Balkan wars and being relatively expensive. Croatia shows many faces to travelers and there are oodles of marvels awaiting you at this destination. The capital Zagreb is the largest city in Croatia.

Land of a thousand islands

The natural environment is protected by dozens of national and nature parks. In the historical region of Dalmatia, on the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea, 1,100 offshore islands wrapped in warm seas line the shores. Activities such as diving, kayaking and yachting, to name a few, are recommended. The Dalmatian dog owes its name to this region.

Porec, Supetar, Makarska, Split and Novalja (thanks to the beaches and night clubs) are all popular for the younger generation and Crikvenica will not disappoint casino fans, allowing you to gamble through the night. History buffs will be drawn to Pula. Music lovers should visit Trogir which holds classical music recitals.

Non-crowded beach and / or nature holidays are possible in Drage, Biograd, in Milna at Zlatni Rat, on Korcula (walking) in Supetar (camping, fairly expensive in Radmanove Mlinice).

Water sports are very popular in Croatia: fantastic surf in Bol (the island of Brac), Petrcane is home to watersport centres, and sailing is practiced in Filip i Jakov.
